Painting Lesson
The following are 2 free painting lessons , enjoy!

Here is my approach to painting , starting with field studies , painted on location . The challenge is painting the fleeting light of the day. The reward is walking out of the wilderness with a gift from nature. I have been fortunate over the years to have recieved many of natures rewards. Many people ask me If I give lessons , this is for you.

P.S...I have been considering hosting a wilderness painting adventure "let me know what you think, e-mail me at rjstump@aol.com

Birches On The Brook  painting lesson

I started with a plein air created quickly in the last light of a warm spring day.
I was facing north so the sun was setting to my left.

I am starting here with an l shaped composition , drawing lightly on the canvas with a few warm lines
#2 Dark uprights are placed keeping the shapes varied . The painting is starting to read at this early stage
#3 adding warm midtones and sky light while adjusting values
#4 bringing in the cool tones , adding reflected lights and softening
#5 reflected lights within the shadows, highlighting , softening and hardening edges and color gradation
I tried to convey a peaceful easy feeling
